Typically stacked data file disks are clamped by a series of bolts spaced symmetrically around the disk hub. However, each bolt provides a concentrated clamping load that results in disk surface distortion even when distribution rings or plates are provided. The clamping device disclosed herein does not provide loading at discrete points but rather distributes the clamping forces uniformly around the disk clamping surfaces. Two methods are described.
