Ordered Access to Bus Systems with Non Negligible Cable Delays

A novel ordered-access scheme is proposed for a bidirectional bus in local area communication networks. The scheme is intended for cases where the propagation delay on the bus cable is larger than a few bit times. The performance of the suggested method is superior to both polling and random-access schemes. Ordered access is achieved with minimum overhead.
