Early MLC (Multilayer Ceramic) work used a molybdenum oxide paste from which conductor patterns were formed. The oxide was converted to a porous open metallic sponge during processing. Subsequent capillary filling with copper provided the conductor pathways. Later methods avoided the capillary filling by using molybdenum metal glass mixtures.
