Basic band printer mechanisms use endless band printers with a number of printing dot elements which are porous and can be re-inked at re-inking stations. Here in Figs. 1 and 2, a wear-resistant layer 10 has chevron shaped slits 14 cut in it to provide chevron-shaped articulated elements 15 with an ink-dispensing orifice 16 at the apex of each chevron 15. Beneath the wear-resistant layer is a porous internal layer 11. Behind the porous layer is a cover layer which holds the ink within the porous layer.
