Referring to Fig. 1, wherein a channel-to-channel adapter (CCA) is schematically illustrated, a channel-to-channel data transfer occurs when a channel program in one processor is issued with WRITE commands, and a second processor issues a channel program containing READ commands. Various techniques can be and are used to synchronize the WRITE-READ commands. Fig. 2 shows synchronization (SYNC) commands, SW and SR, as the mechanism. The exact connection/disconnection technique is not essential to this description.
