Abstract

A syncronizing channel-to-channel adapter (SCCA) provides a multipath control unit for interconnection of muiltiple processors (Fig. 1). Each channel interface device address represents a unique logical link between two related programs executing in two of the attaching processors. The logical links can be distributed among multiple connected processors, or, more simply, among multiple program applications executing between two processors. Since the device address consists of eight bits, 256 logical links are thus available. The allocation of these links is made by user convention among the programs running on the multiple processors. The SCCA does not have a view of the programming/user convention; it interconnects two processors using the same device address at the proper time for data transfer.
