Procedure for Transient Area of Address Translation Table in Multiprogramming System
Original Publication Date: 1981-Nov-01
Included in the Prior Art Database: 2005-Feb-12
In this procedure the transient area of an address translation table holds the real address of the current task program if the program is a transient program or it holds a dummy address, and the transient area always points to only the current task program. The task control block (TCB) also holds the real storage address of the transient program. If the transient goes into the wait state, a flag is set in the TCB. When the task comes out of the wait state, the flag is checked to see whether the transient is still in storage (at the location indicated in the TCB). If the transient has been removed from storage, it is refetched from disk and it becomes the current task program, and its new address is entered in the TCB.
