Stepper Motor Sequencing

The present system provides for means for sequencing a variable reluctance stepper motor to operate in a half step mode. The sequence involves the movement from one phase in a detented or registered position to the next succeeding phase in a detented or registered position. The motor is operated so that there is an intermediate phase wherein two pole pairs are turned on and there is no detent or registered position. For example, if the motor is to be stepped clockwise from the detented phase A position, shown in the drawing, to a position wherein phase B is detented, the sequence would be in half steps A-AB-B.
