Machining Process using Thermal Profile Control of Workpiece

Workpieces are precision machined by initially expanding or contracting the workpiece in selected areas through the application of a controlled thermal gradient correlated to the desired workpiece profile. Subsequent machining removes material from the expanded or noncontracted portions of the workpiece. Parts can be machined to profiles with required dimensional variations smaller than normal manufacturing tolerances.
