General Purpose Driver Circuit
The above circuit allows either of two logic standard levels to be generated
with the same physical devices.
Module 1 comprises four matched drivers 2 to 5 which provide compatible
standard EIA levels on their outputs 02 to 05, when they are supplied by a
nominal -Vcc voltage. When TTL compatible levels are required, module 1 is
supplied with a reduced -Vcc voltage.
In module 1, driver 5 is used to generate the required -Vcc voltage according
to the desired compatible TTL or EIA levels. Voltage V1 equal to +8.5 V is
provided at the input of driver 5 such that it generates a low level on output 05.
One input of operational amplifier A is connected to 05 and the other input is
connected either to the ground through switch S, or to a voltage V2 = -8.5 volts.
Amplifier A generates the - Vcc supply voltage for feeding the drivers in module 1.
When switch S is closed, the -Vcc voltage is reduced so that drivers 2 to 4
provide TTL compatible signals which have a low level equal to 0 volt. When
switch S is open, the drivers provide EIA compatible signals with a low level
equal to -5 volts.
