This article describes a method of preventing evaporation material creep over crucible walls due to excessive wetting. This can be a particular problem in the evaporation of alloys which may not be compatible with standard metal crucibles. Evaporant material creep can cause thermal shorts to exterior tooling, with a drastic reduction in source temperature. This results in an interrupted deposition and, frequently, the loss of an expensive crucible.
