Some thermoplastic records have pits in the surface of the record formed along data tracks with high accuracy to represent data at high densities. The length or other characteristic of the pits can be read by various techniques such as optical or capacitive sensing. Figs. 1 and 2 show two techniques for using electrophoretic deposition to form these records.
