Bi-Phase to NRZ Decoder

This article describes a means for decoding a bi-phase encoded signal into the NRZ format. A digital feedback loop and highly simplified circuit incorporating it provide the desired result. Bi-phase signal encoding is used for converting an NRZ signal into a form which has no DC components for transmission. The particular format considered here encodes the binary 1 level of NRZ data into one cycle of the clock frequency employed and a 0 level of the NRZ data into a half cycle of half the clock frequency. Thus, a single baud or time slot occupied by a bit of the bi-phase signal is equal to the time of one cycle of the basic clock frequency.
