A plurality of hosts H1-HN share one or more resources. The shared resources can be logically or physically partitioned into a plurality of parts, each part having an independent access and priority control identified by the plurality of "busy boxes". Additionally, each of the hosts H1-HN contain a timer for use in conjunction with each of the busy boxes in an independent manner for ascertaining priority and operability of the respective portions of the shared resources. In other words, each partition, logical or physical, of the shared resources will have its own associated busy box. The remaining description will be directed toward how one busy box operatively gives priority to any of the hosts H1-HN for its associated portion of the shared resources.
