Abstract

When the concentration of toner in the developer of electrophotographic copiers is low, the control logic issues a Feed command to cause toner to be fed from the reservoir (usually a cartridge). When a given number of consecutive Feed commands, e.g., seven, are issued and the concentration has not increased, the controller shuts down the machine. A switch near the replenisher senses the presence or absence of toner in the reservoir. If there is no toner in the reservoir, copying can resume when the toner cartridge is replaced.
