High capacity magnetic recording devices using flexible disks as the recording medium require servo information for the accessing and following of the data tracks. This requirement is created by the large temperature and humidity expansion coefficients and the anisotropic nature of the substrate material. Without the ability to locate and follow the data track, wide tracks with large guard bands would be needed to allow for the expansion and contraction of the recording media. This in turn would substantially reduce the storage capacity of any given device. A great variety of patterns may be employed.
