The magnetic particles in a magnetic disk coating can be magnetically oriented effectively using only a single magnet set positioned closely adjacent the coating. In the past, two magnet sets have been required, one on each side of the disk, to perform particle orientation after application of the coating. By placing a single magnet set closely adjacent the coated surface, orientation ratios equal to or greater than 2.8 can be obtained.
