Sequential Power Connection

Products which contain several electric motors, for example, one motor in a master unit and one in each of a number of slave units, must have provision for sequential starting to avoid large current surges. Fig. 1 shows a schematic block diagram of such a system in which a two-wire "daisy chain" connection provides sequential powering of the units. The system is easily extendable and can recover from failure or removal of one slave unit so that subsequent units in the chain can be powered.
