The magnetic brush development step of an electrophotographic process accomplished by magnetic-field transport of steel carrier beads, coated with smaller toner particles, to the photoconductor's latent image. It is preferable to coat these carrier beads with a material having the proper triboelectric relationship to the toner, and having required mechanical and optical properties. This carrier coating process place in the fluidized bed apparatus shown in the figure. Heated air is admitted to the bottom of tower 10. An air-supported fluidized bed 11 of carrier beads is maintained in constant movement, as coating material is introduced at high pressure from above the bed.
