Electronic data processing machines such as, for example, various models of the IBM System/370, often contain a recording mechanism which continuously maintains a record of the last n machine states. One example of such a mechanism is the Diagnostic Trace described in the IBM Technical Disclosure Bulletin 17, 2715 (February 1975).
