Abstract

Magnetic tape drives and similar products must frequently start, stop and reverse direction very quickly and accurately. In the drawing, counterrotating jackshafts 1, 2 carry wheels 3, 4 with surfaces having a very fine diamond knurl. Spindle 5 carries a neoprene roll 6 having a nitrile coating 7. Coating 7 is brought into contact with either wheel 3 or wheel 4 by moving spindle 5, as shown by arrow 8.
