Abstract

An effective calibration tool for glide height test heads used with magnetic recording disks is a disk with vacuum-deposited asperities. Controlling the asperity height is the key to the use of such disks. However, masking problems are at least part of the reason for nonrepeatability in producing small diameter asperities.
