Abstract

The signal in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) can be increased by inserting a rod 10 into the spinning NMR sample tube 12. The rod 10 dips into the liquid sample 14 and induces a flow therein past the active NMR coil 16 area. The end of the rod can bc cut at an angle, as shown in Fig. 2, or it may have a cork-screw design. This arrangement is particularly suitable for samples containing either 13-carbon or 15nitrogen nuclei with long relaxation times. A signal/noise improvement of threefold has been observed with a 13-carbon sample.
