A liquid film display cell, for example, of the liquid crystal or electrochromic type, comprises a silicon substrate 1 on which display electrode (not shown) are deposited, and which is covered with a polyimidepassivation layer 2. Because of potential problems of adverse reactions between an organic sealant and the liquid film, it is desirable to employ a glass cell top and an inorganic sealing method for bonding the cell top to the substrate. A problem with the use of a glass frit is its inability to bond directly to polyimide.
