With the emergence of microprocessors as a major component of modern display technology, the complexity and function provided by display terminals have undergone a significant increase. One result of this is that conventional program debug techniques arc now required at the display terminal microcode level both for development and field support. This support could be provided by elaborate test tools, but this article describes how the terminal keyboard, display screen and microprocessor with a small hardware and microcode addition can satisfy the requirements mentioned above.
