Recirculating Loop Frequency Diagnostic Monitor
The disclosed test site or product recirculating loop frequency (RLF) loops
are easily debugged and accurately measured in both AC and DC testing.
The disclosed technique allows the test engineer to debug and DC and AC
test the RLF loops easily and accurately. The RLF loops can be placed on
special test site chips on each wafer or be designed right into the product chips, if
the designer so desires. These RLF loops can be used to monitor product
performance and can be designed to include the most critical performance
parameters for that particular product.
The drawing depicts the basic schematic diagram. The advantages of this
technique are as follows:
(1) Each RLF loop has two output paths. The output pad #6 serves as a
diagnostic pad for AC loop frequency measurements. By comparing its results
with the main output of each RLF loop, the RLF loops can be easily debugged
and the test results compared for integrity. If the loop does not function properly,
the trouble spot can be easily localized by the following table: RLF

(2) The input pin 3 is used for testing the DC functionality of the loops. It
can be used for DC screening before doing RLF frequency measurements. If
the DC test results are no-good, it indicates a defective circuit and any further
testing is not necessary. This can save some test time, and may prevent
generation of erroneous RLF frequency measurements.
