Dual Voltage Switch for Inductive Loads

This circuit is designed to switch current in large value inductors (printer's stepper motors, etc.) extremely fast. Classical switching techniques for this purpose have used one high voltage power supply and have dissipated power in regulating transistors or in resistors. With the dual voltage switch of this article a higher voltage is used to gain a fast rise time, and once the desired current level is reached a lower voltage is switched in to satisfy DC conditions.
