Abstract

Printer timing for a 30 CPS typewriter requires that pins enter the barrel cam at three angular locations of the cam. This precludes the use of a five-magnet pin block design unless secondary pin restore cams are added to the rotate selector to restore all pins simultaneously and consequently, free the selection sliders at the three pin entry locations. However, the use of secondary pin restore cams is not feasible due to the physical layout of the cam, machine timing constraints and pin interferences.
