A poor environment of a computer system can create severe problems in system performance. A humidity sensor can be placed into the system to assure that the environment specifications are not exceeded and potential problems can be prevented before they occur. A hydroscopic compound saturating a porous ceramic can be formed into a capacitor which is placed into an oscillator circuit where the absorption of humidity on the dielectric will cause the dielectric constant to change and, therefore, the value of the capacitance will also change proportionally. The change in capacitance will change the frequency of oscillation of the oscillator and make the humidity proportional to frequency.
