For preciseness in digital tachometers, the distance or gap between a fixed optical mask and the actual tachometer disk of strip has to be closely controlled. For maximizing gap control, a bearing contact can be provided between the stationary mask and the moving tachometer member. It is desired, therefore, to have a contact that exhibits minimal wear any yet possesses the high degree of cleanliness for ensuring against contamination of a tachometer mask or member.
