Ferrite core transformers used as line output transformers on CRT circuit cards radiate acoustical energy which results in a pure tone at the line frequency. Circuit requirements dictate that the transformer be mounted on the card or very close to it. Cooling requirements prevent encapsulation to prevent the noise. This article describes a technique for reducing the noise by up to 22 dB without impacting the cooling.
