In a document storage application there is a need to store and access a large number of documents on a direct-access storage device (DASD). In the text processing application to be described two forms of storage are used for holding documents. Permanent storage is used for storing documents until deleted or archived by an operator. Working storage is used for creating and modifying documents prior to moving them into permanent storage.
