In ink jet printers of the continuous stream type, based on the Sweet process, drop deflection height is approximately inversely proportional to the square of the drop velocity. Accordingly, controlling the velocity of the ink stream is necessary in order to obtain high quality printing. Instantaneous drop velocity may be expressed by the equation v = Lambda f, where Lambda is drop-to-drop spacing and f is the drop frequency, which is constant.
