Abstract

In flexible disk systems a single disk may be used in a plurality of drives and a single drive may operate with a plurality of flexible disks or diskettes. Because of the physical characteristics of The material used to make flexible disks, the dimensional stability of the disks is very poor. This method of start up and capture of the first data track has to tolerate large eccentricity, ellipticity and initial settings of the drive end stops. This method is also for implementation with a low mass rotary actuator. Because of the low mass, effects of bearing friction and offset, windage, electrical connection and out of balance dependent on mounting plane have to be tolerated.
