It would also be extremely beneficial to operate Josephson elements temperatures above 10 deg. K. Such high temperature operation eases the refrigeration requirements considerably and gives certain electrical benefits. Josephson tunnel junctions are very difficult to make with both electrodes composed of high Tc superconductors. Disclosed herein is a new superconducting switchable device. This device is a planar, all-metal structure which can be made from any metallic system. It is also extremely small and as such will be a very fast switch.
