Concept Search - What can I type?
For a concept search, you can enter phrases, sentences, or full paragraphs in English. For example, copy and paste the abstract of a patent application or paragraphs from an article.
Concept search eliminates the need for complex Boolean syntax to inform retrieval. Our Semantic Gist engine uses advanced cognitive semantic analysis to extract the meaning of data. This reduces the chances of missing valuable information, that may result from traditional keyword searching.

Carriage Locking Mechanism
Shown and described is apparatus which prevents possible operator injuries
by locking the carriage to thereby avoid high velocity movement at unexpected
Carriage movement in a daisy wheel printer in which this mechanism has
utility is controlled by a servo motor and a cable/pulley arrangement.
Mechanically locking carriage 1 requires the restriction of movement of either the
carriage drive cable 2 or idler pulley assembly 3. My technique restricts idler
pulley assembly motion.
Locking wheel 4 is attached to the top of idler pulley assembly 3. Equally
spaced notches 5 are provided on locking wheel 4. Bracket assembly 6 is
attached to the left hand frame assembly 8 for providing pivot stub 9 for carriage
lock bell crank 10, which is biased by spring 11.
In operation, when the cover of the printer is opened, bell crank 10 rotates
clockwise about pivot stub 9 until locking tabs 12 at the end of carriage lock bell
crank 10 engage notches 5 in locking wheel 4. Thus, carriage 1 is thereby locked
in place. Should tabs 12 not engage notches 5 but rather rest on the surface
between notches 5, approximately 0.3 inch of movement can occur with the
carriage before tabs 12 engage notches 5.
Closing the cover causes a cam surface (not shown) in the top cover to strike
in portion 14 of bell crank 10, rotating the bell crank 10 counterclockwise about
pivot stub 9, thereby disengaging tabs 12 from notches 5.
