An instrument may be controlled from either its front panel controls or by an external controller by means of the circuit shown. Inputs to the instrument's hardware, represented by lines 1, are generated via multiplexer 2. The state of SR flip-flop 3 determines the source of control. If flip-flop 3 is set by the external controller via decoder 4, the external controller will control. If flip-flop 3 is reset by the external controller via reset line 5, or manually via front panel enable line 6, the front panel will control.
