The figure illustrates a functional schematic of a paper gating scheme for a high performance belt-type copier system. Each of the functional elements is synchronized (position locked) to the photoconductor belt via two channels of position information generated by the belt sensors. One of the sensors, called the panel sensor, is actuated by some mark on the belt and generates panel sync signals which indicate the leading edge of each image on the belt. The belt incremental sensor is actuated by a number of marks per panel and generates incremental position information within each panel. The belt incremental signal may be obtained from an incremental disk attached to the drum.
