Authorization Rules Definition and Validation in a Multilevel Database Architecture

Assume a multilevel database management system architecture, including external, conceptual and internal levels. This article proposes a mechanism for permitting authorization specifications to be written at the external level, while insuring consistency between external and conceptual rules referring to the same objects and for validating access requests in such a system (where authorization rules may be defined at these two levels).
