Distributed Star Network with Unrooted Tree Topology

This article describes a method and means for demand accessing and broadcast transmission by ready ones of a plurality of ports arranged in an unrooted tree network formed from ports, nodes, and duplexed connecting links among the ports and nodes. In a star network having rooted nodes, any to any transmission is provided through the use of a path lock uplink from a demanding port to a root node responsive to a message leading edge. Arbitration at each distinct node level enforces a first come, first serve accessing protocol among demanding ports. This is followed by a broadcast transmission downlink to all ports, including that of the originating port.
