In staging subsystems having a data base memory with a staging memory, such as a DASD (direct-access storage device) or other forms of rapid access storage, high activity rates of short data sets can cause high staging and destaging rates which may impact performance. By full duplexing the staging and destaging operations with the data path to a utilization device, such as a host, total performance of a subsystem can be substantially enhanced.
