A phase-locked loop synchronization system is shown for use with any system where the exact integrity of the output is dependent not only on the phase relationship, but also the exact cycle. An example of such a system is a laser printing system that is unable to tolerate skipped cycles because each cycle represents a dot, or picture element, on the printed text.
