The algebraic/logical shift matrix, for left or right shift, uses bipolar transistors connected in a current steering arrangement. An algebraic left shift is similar to a logical left shift, but when shifting right algebraically, a sign bit is replicated in vacated bit positions to the left. The arrangement prevents more than one current from flowing in any output circuit at a given period of time.
