positioning and retaining of a bearing both radially and axially.
Fig. 1 is a cross-sectional view of the end cap of an impact printer motor.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the motor end cap of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is our inventive device.
As shown in Fig. 2, bearing housing 1 is slotted as indicated. Annular member 2
is provided with cutouts 3 in a design chosen to control radial pressure by means
of the tensile strength of a particular material and width 4 of the contact area. A
predictable force is realized when annular member 2 is used to tighten housing 1
on the outer race of the bearing since the inner diameter 5 of annular device 2 is
smaller than the outer diameter 6 of bearing housing 1.
