Pressure belt 10 is driven by capstan 11 in rubbing contact with a magnetic read station 12 and with independently driven record documents 13, and thus tends to wear on its external surface 14. Excessive wear of the external surface material changes the coefficient of friction of the belt and can cause less reliable behavior of the system.
