In ink jet printing when relative motion occurs between the record medium and print head, lead distance must be included for drop flight time when determining the time of the print signals to be applied at the nozzles. For a constant velocity, the lead time can easily be included. However, when printing during variable relative speed, such as during acceleration or deceleration of the head, the computation of lead time becomes more complex. A technique and circuit for determining the appropriate lead time are described on the next page.
