Abstract

The flowchart of Fig. 1 shows the method of operation of an improved identification (ID) card with an associated terminal so as to allow the identification card itself to verify the identity of the person presenting the card for Purposes of identification. It is an important feature of the card that comparison of a personal identification number (PIN) presented from memory by the card holder is compared with the true or verify personal identification number (VIN) entirely within the card and the verify identification number is never accessible outside of the card itself. Another important feature of the card is that the card invalidates itself permanently after a predetermined number of consecutive failures between successful attempts by the card holder to provide the correct PIN.
