Data-processing system 10 (Fig. 1) includes a main data memory 11 shared on a cyclic basis with multiple microprocessors 12-14 each having its own separately addressed read-only microcode storage. Processor 13 is a language processor which executes high-level user programs stored in memory 11. Keyboard processor 13 has an attachment 15 for interfacing keyboard 16. Other processors such as 14, may similarly control diskette drives, teleprocessing ports, etc. A separate I/O memory 17 communicates with main memory 11 to act as a refresh buffer for attachment 18 to CRT display 19. Addressing in memory 17 may be controlled by processor 13 (via attachment 15) as well as by CRT attachment 18.
