Servo System for Magnetic Recording Based on Time Comparison

With increasing track density, the importance of servoing in magnetic recording is growing. A system is presented which does not require additional recording space and is independent of magnetic quality nonuniformities. Its principle is based on time rather than amplitude. It employs a macroscopic geometric pattern to determine with microscopic accuracy the location of the tracks.
