Double Amorphous Films for Submicron Bubble Devices

Amorphous magnetic films are suitable for supporting very small stable magnetic bubble domains. Unfortunately, amorphous magnetic films are not readily ion implantable to provide propagation elements for moving the domains. To overcome this problem, a double layer structure is provided in which a first amorphous magnetic layer serves as the driving layer for moving magnetic bubble domains in a second magnetic layer, termed the storage layer. Propagation elements are etched into the amorphous drive layer and a reorienting magnetic field is used in a conventional manner.
